A new beginning

I find myself in the in-between. Trusting in God that he has a plan for me. Trying to be patient. Persuading myself to enjoy this “free-time” before everything falls into place, and it’s been a roller coaster to say the least. In the midst of it all I find myself having inner battles. That question I’ve been asked since filling out my college applications still haunts me and I’m starting to feel the weight of it. It goes like this “what do you want to do when you grow up?”

Honestly, I still don’t know.

I think I’m plagued with indecision, but more than that, I think that I’ve been feeding myself a lie. The lie that there is a perfect job for me out there somewhere, and if I look hard enough, I’m going to find it. When did people start believing that you had to love your job in order to feel fulfilled? I get it that some people do truly find their dream job (but even then there are some aspects you aren’t going to like), but there has to be other people out there who don’t, right? What if finding the perfect job meant reordering my attitude and my expectations and shaking off these stipulations and pressures I put on myself to please other people . . . BINGO, two points for Jaklyn (I think you’ve just stepped into my own personal pep talk session)! Now it’s just putting into practice all of these things, oh buddy. On a side note, if you have any suggestions pertaining to a job you could see me doing, please let me know! 🙂

Well in the midst of all of these changes and inner battles, its been a time of new beginnings. I feel like the sand my heart was collecting is finally being washed away. Gray and I are in “The Monday Night Crew” a group of about 10 people, who are around the same age as us, who meet to discuss, wait for it . . . life. I love it! The girls in the group are starting the book, “Lies Women Believe,” and I cannot wait. I’ve only read the introduction, but I’m excited to see how God works through this book to impact all of our lives.

Other news, most of my time these days is consumed with this energetic fella and job applications, but I forgot to take a picture of those. Riggs can be quite the rascal. I just caught him trying to dig his first hole today, big sigh. I’m gonna have to nip that one in the bud (love that phrase) :).

Mom he’s turning out to be a lot like Tessa, he loves plastic bottles and sticks, he tends to think they are alive and they keep him entertained for at least ten minutes which makes me extremely happy and gives me time to finish projects and bake pies!IMG_9473IMG_9481IMG_9493IMG_9495IMG_9498

To conclude this randomness, I’ve been liking this extremely warm weather lately which is surprising for me because I really love the cold. One of my favorite moments of the warm day occurred when the sun came shining through the grey this afternoon. It let me enjoy my beautiful wind chime . . . and then I realized the dog was digging, ha. I hope you have a great Wednesday!

Friday Night Lights

The TV series, gave Gray and I a little bit of inspiration. . . Moving to a new city can provide you with lots of free time, especially when you don’t have a job (yet). So Gray and I thought, “what better time to start a TV series and finish it.” Glad we did, but I’m glad its over too. I’m under the impression that shows with large amounts of drama are best watched on a weekly basis, not an hourly basis. The rabbit trail is now over, needless to say if you’ve seen the show, there is a character named Tim Riggins, and if I do say so myself, he’s a really interesting fellow. Gray and I really liked him and so the newest edition to our family was given the name Riggins. He’s the cutest little fart. We went on a whim one day to the Humane Society and walked out without a dog. If you know us this is pretty miraculous. If we have our minds set on something we don’t usually come to the end empty handed, but it was for the best because that day we didn’t even meet Riggs. We went to another place, but didn’t find anything there either. Mainly because all the puppies had some virus that didn’t allow people to see them . . . Eventually we came back to the first place and found our baby :). A two month old boxer/hound. He’s a handful, but we love him! . . . sometimes.IMG_9391IMG_9392IMG_9396

Having a new puppy includes lots of walks so last week we went to Paris State Park to walk around the lake. Riggs met some friends and I enjoyed the scenery.IMG_9405IMG_9410IMG_9413IMG_9419IMG_9423IMG_9431IMG_9433IMG_9436IMG_9443IMG_9445

Tiffani & Jon

I had an awesome opportunity over Christmas break. Tiffani and Jon Decker allowed me the special privilege of capturing their beautiful wedding! Even though, by the end of the day I was exhausted, I can truly say I had a fantastic time! It definitely helped that Tiffani and Jon were so fun and easy to work with. Tiff even did some “work” beforehand (yeah!), by checking out her pinterest board I got some great ideas of what she was looking for in a photographer. Side note, I love pinterest. Tiff and Jon thank you so much for the amazing opportunity and here’s to wishing you the best in your new marriage!

Also, I definitely need to thank my helpers and encouragers; my right hand woman/dress-fixer/prop-holder, Francesca, and my handsome man Gray/back-up-photographer. There are a lot of small events that contribute to the large event on a wedding day (i.e. getting ready, unity candle, first dance, just to name a few), and they truly helped my cover all the bases. I have to say, making sure I was in the middle of everything was difficult, but extremely rewarding. At times it didn’t help that I’m a really big perfectionist, I need to learn that getting frustrated with myself when I miss the chance to capture “the perfect shot,” isn’t worth it (after all I’m not perfect even though I wish I were), I just need to say “oh well” and look for the next chance because it will come. Overall, for my first wedding, if I’m not too critical I think I did pretty well. But don’t take it from me, judge for yourself! I do believe I made the bride and groom happy and to be honest, that’s what matters most to me. So without further ado, here’s a snapshot of their day . . .
